Fun, Friendship, and Adventure!
Pack 617 is recruiting new scouts!
Pack 617 is a Family Pack open to boys and girls in primary school. We normally meet as a "Pack" (K through 5th grade) once a month on the third Wednesday of each month at Savage Volunteer Fire Department. Then we meet as a "Den" in a smaller setting of an age/grade specific group typically once a month.
Check the calendar for the most up-to-date information.
Established in 1988, we are chartered by the Savage Volunteer Fire Co. in Savage MD.
For over 80 years, Cub Scouts have been having the time of their lives making new friends and learning new things in an environment designed to help them succeed. From building their own pinewood derby car to learning how to roast the perfect marshmallow with their best friends at a family camp out, your child will LOVE being a Cub Scout.

Our Cub Scout Pack is active throughout the year: completing adventures, making friends, and growing with new experiences. The best time to join is in the fall as school starts, but scouts can join anytime of the year. Some activities done in the year include:
Pack Campouts: (2+ times a year) at local state parks. Always great to be in the great outdoors. No experience needed!
Pack Hikes: Our goal is to hike on a monthly basis! Most hikes will occur on weekends on local trails
Blue and Gold Banquet: We throw a big birthday party for "scouting's birthday", complete with a meal and professional entertainment
Scouting for Food: We collect food donations within our community and stock the shelves of the Savage Food Pantry. Last year we donated over 1200 lbs of food!
Flag Ceremonies and parades: Our scouts learn about citizenship and respect for the Red, White, and Blue!
Raingutter Regatta: The scouts make boats and race them in rain gutter "tracks".
Community Service: We hike local trails and in our local community to help keep them clean. We participate in Earth Day events.
Pinewood Derby: Scouts make their own cars from kits and race them to the finish.
Klondike Derby: Our scouts participate in a trek through Patapsco State Park and go through an obstacle course designed to simulate the ol' Klondike Days of the '49 Yukon Gold Rush.
Linstead Day Camp: Weeklong day camp in June, held at Howard County Fair Grounds. Very reasonably priced and the scouts LOVE IT!
Other Fun: We launch water bottle rockets, create crafts, do sports, go fishing, have sleepovers in the Maryland Science Center, and more!
